Wind Turbines

During EET 320 (Renewable Energy Systems), students will familiarize themselves with wind turbines. Students will conduct three experiments, to learn about the different factors that can affect the performance of a wind turbine. In the first experiment, students will explore the principles of turbine design and the criteria that define the limits of wind power. In the second experiment, students will investigate how the number of blades and the angle of the blades impact on the output power. Finally, in the third experiment, students will apply different wind speeds to the turbine in order to determine the maximum power point.

Like most forms of green energy, wind energy does not pollute the air like popular energy sources used today. Wind energy is also a sustainable form of energy as it is based on the sun heating the atmosphere and as long as the sun is shining, solar energy will be a viable option for energy generation.
