AE 444 Students visit a LEED Platinum building

Field trip day!! Had the pleasure to take my Building Envelope Systems students on a field trip to University Place 3.0, the first certified WELL Platinum and LEED Platinum lab building in the US! Thank you Marelisa Gibson, Chloe Bendistis, AIA, LEED AP, and the rest of the team at UPA | University Place Associates for leading us through the building and providing this one-of-a-kind learning to Drexel’s students.

Thanks to UPA’s vision, the students had the chance to see in real world what learned in the classroom: thermochromic windows, chilled beams, rainwater harvesting, stormwater management, building control systems — and a green roof, of course. And they learned about the role of architectural and civil engineers in leading the industry and pushing for sustainable solutions in building design. It was a good morning!
