BSEG PhD candidate, Noresh Varman, recently gave a presentation entitled ‘A Methodology for Assessment of Cross-modal Impact of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) on Occupant Comfort and Stress’ at the Indoor Air conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. This work focuses on understanding and quantifying the multimodality that exists between different IEQ conditions and its impact on occupant comfort and stress. Six key factors are considered, alongside the use of bio-signals for data collection. A pilot experiment was conducted in a simulated office with six participants using a mixed factorial design.
The conference provided a valuable platform for building simulation scientists and researchers to exchange ideas on indoor environment and health impacts on occupants and ways to simulate them for implementation in our buildings.
