Happy to have presented our poster at the Engineering for One Planet (EOP) Symposium!
As Drexel transitions from quarters to semesters, our team in the Department of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering at Drexel University used this moment of curricular redesign to intentionally strengthen how sustainability and climate resilience are built across our programs. We developed a roadmap that guides students from early exposure, through skill-building, and toward applied, systems-based decision-making.
In Fall 2025, we piloted interventions across five courses, with results shown here from Junior Design, Building Envelope Systems, and Hydrology. Seeing students move from viewing sustainability as a vague buzzword to using it in real design and data-driven decisions was incredibly rewarding!
Huge thanks to Dr. Alexa Rihana Abdallah for her mentorship, encouragement, and steady support, to The Lemelson Foundation for the funding, and to my amazing colleagues for embarking on this ambitious idea while we’re all deep in academic transformation work — especially Mira Olson, Matthew Reichenbach, PhD, PE, Adams Rackes, and Joseph Hughes for collaborating on this Fall pilot.
This work is continuing this term and next, and we plan to make some of our resources available more broadly — stay tuned!
