What a fun start of the Spring term! I confess that I was nervous because I had no idea how first-year engineering students would react to the idea of a collage workshop, but they really surprised me in the best way!
In our ENGR113 (first year engineering design) session, students will design a climate resilience hub. But before we get our hands on engineering systems and calculations, I wanted them to freely explore creative work and to imagine what a resilient future would look like.
I invited Miles Levesque from Drexel’s Sustainable and Just Futures to adapt his brilliant workshop to our class, and this is the result. We ended up with seven beautiful posters that explored ideas from clean energy to cleaning up waste to nature-based solutions… And now I have their work on my office walls as a daily inspiration and reminder of my mission as an educator.
I’m grateful to Miles, to the students (who really engaged with the workshop idea and had fun getting out of their comfort zone!), and to Drexel’s Climate Pedagogy Incubator for making Miles and I cross paths.
