June 4, 2025 @ 4-6pm ET: “Through the Lens of Faith – Religious Reflections on Environmental Challenges”
Our world is facing complex and pressing challenges that affect the health of our communities and the natural systems we rely on. While these issues are often framed through the lenses of science, policy, and economics, there is also a deeply rooted conversation that speaks to our moral, spiritual, and cultural values. Across traditions, faith communities are drawing on centuries of teachings and practices that call for care, compassion, and responsibility toward the world and one another. This virtual seminar will feature faith leaders from Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. This event will highlight different perspectives and insights grounded in spiritual traditions that can help guide inclusive, values-based responses to today’s ecological and societal challenges.
June 26, 2025 @ 4-6pm ET: “Climate and the Mind: The Mental Health Impacts of Environmental Change”
We are excited to welcome Dr. Lena K. Champlin of the Department of Earth & Environment from Boston University and Dr. Jeremy D. Wortzel of Mass General Brigham – Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard University. Dr. Champlin and Dr. Wortzel will explore the relationship between the environment and mental health, beginning with the adverse direct, indirect, and psychological effects of climate change on the brain. They will then examine the positive influences of environmental factors, including the mental health benefits of urban green spaces and community outreach initiatives. To illustrate these benefits, they will highlight a children’s book project designed to foster conversations about climate anxiety. A Q&A and open discussion will take place following the presentation. We hope to see you there!
