Congratulations to Nolan Black on his recent PhD defense and graduation! Nolan’s dissertation, titled “Multiscale Structural Optimization through Second-Order Homogenization and Machine Learning,” led to five first-author publications in prestigious journals such as Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering and Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization. Additionally, he contributed to five other articles, including one with his Master’s student mentee. Nolan’s new position will be as a Simulation Engineer at Pasteur Labs.
