Workshops

The MCMB Lab frequently hosts workshop to share recent developments, discuss new ideas, and cooperate on research initiatives. The workshops are a great opportunity to check in on all the great work done by MCMB researchers and facilitate collaborations. If you are interested in attending a workshop to learn more about our group, please visit  our Contact page.

May 2024

In May 2024, the lab met for some interesting discussions related to our high performance computing libraries. We reviewed our approach to distributing code, documentation, and educational notes. Several demos and tutorials were presented to demonstrate our capabilities including multiscale, nonlinear, and design optimization examples. The group discussed test driven development and other best practices we promote in the lab.

July 2023 – MCMB Summer Camp

This summer the MCMB lab conducted its first educational Summer Camp to introduce High School students to engineering careers and disciplines. During this program, the students gained exposure to diverse engineering topics through sessions covering structural/thermal computational modelling, biomechanics modelling, and topology optimization. To reinforce the theories that were taught, these sessions included hands-on demonstrations using commercial modelling software to solve engineering problems. These problems included finding the temperature and stress distributions in structures as well as finding an optimized material distribution in a cantilever beam. Additionally, the students gained valuable insights into experimental engineering through various lab tours, including those focused on biomechanical materials testing and battery fabrication technologies.

December 2023

In December 2023, the group met for a workshop related to phase field damage modeling and high-performance computing. As part of our ongoing efforts to join our novel fracture mechanics modeling techniques with our advanced computing paradigms, the group worked through several theoretical and practical examples.

November 2022

The November 2022 workshop featured a series of proposals for future work in the MCMB Lab. The group discussed methods to integrate fabrication and mechanical testing in our research. As the day progressed, researchers proposed different long-term projects outside of our current research direction including applications in software development, biomechanical design, and biomedical science.
