Ekaterina Pomerantseva
Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering

Ekaterina Pomerantseva started her appointment as an Assistant Professor at Drexel University in 2013 and was named as Anne Stevens Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering in 2015. Prior to joining Drexel she held postdoctoral appointments in the Institute for Systems Research at the University of Maryland College Park (2010 – 2013) and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Waterloo (2009 – 2010). She has co-authored over 45 journal papers. In 2016, she received the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) Energy Technologies Award, which is presented for notable and outstanding research in the field of smart energy technologies. Her research interests lie in the development and characterization of novel nanostructured materials for electrochemical systems, such as energy storage and water treatment devices, with the goal to better understand intercalation-based processes at nanoscale.

Faculty Profile

Timofey Averianov
PhD Student

Tim is a 4th year PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering. He currently works on understanding heterointerface behavior in bilayered vanadium oxide and using MXenes to develop high-energy cathodes for potassium-ion batteries. In his free time, Tim likes skiing, biking, cooking, playing the piano, and working on various electronics projects.

Xinle (Leo) Zhang
PhD Student

Leo is a 2nd year PhD student in Materials Science & Engineering. His current work focuses on synthesizing, characterizing, and testing 2D bilayer vanadium oxide cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Leo likes hiking and listening to music in his free time.

Kriti Panchal
PhD Student

Kriti is a 1st year PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering. Under the supervision of Prof. Steven May and Prof. Ekaterina Pomerantseva she works on oxide thin films deposition to study their function in biomedical devices. She likes to watch science fiction and cook in her free time.

Huyen (Anna) Nguyen
MS Student

Anna is the Erasmus Mundus Materials for Energy Storage and Conversion+ (MESC+) Master’s student, co-advised by Prof. Yury Gogotsi. Her project focuses on the synthesis of MXene-derived chemically preintercalated bilayered vanadium oxides for electrodes in aqueous Zn-ion batteries.

Prithvi Ravi
MS Student

Prithvi is a 2nd year MS graduate student in Materials Science and Engineering. His work focuses on synthesizing MXene derived oxides and using them as cathode materials for aqueous energy storage. In his free time, he loves singing, cooking, and watching Thriller TV shows.
