Ekaterina Pomerantseva
Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering

Ekaterina Pomerantseva started her appointment as an Assistant Professor at Drexel University in 2013 and was named as Anne Stevens Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering in 2015. Prior to joining Drexel she held postdoctoral appointments in the Institute for Systems Research at the University of Maryland College Park (2010 – 2013) and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Waterloo (2009 – 2010). She has co-authored over 45 journal papers. In 2016, she received the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) Energy Technologies Award, which is presented for notable and outstanding research in the field of smart energy technologies. Her research interests lie in the development and characterization of novel nanostructured materials for electrochemical systems, such as energy storage and water treatment devices, with the goal to better understand intercalation-based processes at nanoscale.

kriti-panchal

Kriti Panchal
PhD Student

Kriti is a 3rd year PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering. Under the supervision of Prof. Steven May and Prof. Ekaterina Pomerantseva she works on oxide thin films deposition to study their function in biomedical devices. She likes to watch science fiction and cook in her free time.

yash-athreya

Yash Athreya
PhD Student

Yash is a 1st year PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering. After completing his Masters in Nanomaterials at Drexel University, he is pursuing his doctoral studies under the guidance of Prof. Ekaterina Pomerantseva and Prof. Yury Gogotsi. His research is focused on MXenes for water desalination using techniques like capacitive deionization and photothermal desalination. He plays water polo and badminton and loves to play guitar as a hobby.

derick-phan

Derick Phan
PhD Student

Derick is a 1st year PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering. He currently works on the synthesis and characterization of MXene-derived bilayered vanadium oxides to understand their electrochemical behavior as cathode materials in aqueous zinc-ion batteries. In his free time, Derick enjoys working on DIY audio projects for sound systems and playing with his cat.

maxwell-maceachern

Maxwell MacEachern
BS/MS Student

Max is a 5th year BS/MS student in Materials Science and Engineering. His MS research project focuses on synthesizing cation preintercalated MXene-derived bilayered vanadium oxides for use in aqueous zinc ion batteries. Outside of the lab, Max likes to sail, going for walks, and listen to music.

noam-blumenfeld

Noam Blumenfeld
BS Student

Noam is a first-year undergraduate student participating in the Students Tackling Advanced Research (STAR) Scholars Program. This summer, he is investigating pathways for the partial oxidation of MXenes to develop advanced cathode materials for aqueous zinc-ion batteries. He is also eager to deepen his understanding of electrochemistry and its applications in industry. Outside the lab, Noam aspires to earn his private pilot’s license and one day own an airplane.
