Interfacial Phenomena
Interfaces play a major role controlling a wide range of processes like self-assembly, foam formation and stability, spreading, drug delivery, encapsulation, reactions, etc. The Alvarez Research Group is working to better understand the effect molecular chemistry and process parameters (like temperature and pressure) have on interfacial properties, such as tension and rheology. We work at the forefront of novel methods to characterize interfacial phenomenon, which strengthens our fundamental understanding of the physical world. Our group uses these fundamentals to inform manufacturing processes and harness natural phenomena. Current areas of focus include self-assembly, foam formation and stabilization for drug delivery, droplet and filament spreading, and interfacial transport and dynamics.
