After graduating from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 2017, Dr. Lu worked as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in the San Diego State University. In August 2018, Dr. Lu joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University as an assistant professor.
Dr. Lu’s research focuses on the advanced power electronics system, specified on the wireless power transfer technology for the high-power electric vehicles and the low-power electronic devices. Dr. Lu proposed and implemented the first high-power, long-distance, and high-efficiency capacitive power transfer system, which achieves 2.4 kW power transfer across an airgap distance of 150 mm with the dc-dc efficiency higher than 91%. This new technology utilizes the high frequency (MHz) electric fields to transfer power and could reduce the system cost and weight, promoting the practical applications.
His research on the capacitive power transfer has received the 2015 Prize Letter Award, 2016 Second-Place Prize Paper Award both from IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, and the 2017 Second-Place Student Demo Prize from ECCE 2017 conference.
